CoinDCX review: PAXG in rupees

CoinDCX lists PAX Gold against the Indian rupee, and its own API showed the PAXG/INR market active on 12 October 2026. It is a workable local route, but Indian crypto tax rules make PAXG an expensive way to own gold.

Verdict and score

CoinDCX is an Indian crypto exchange that lists PAX Gold against the rupee. For an Indian resident who wants a gold token, that is the shortest path: rupees in from a bank account, PAXG out on the PAXG/INR book. PAX Gold is issued by Paxos Trust Company, N.A., and each token represents one fine troy ounce of a London Good Delivery bar. Our guide to what PAX Gold is covers the basics.

We score CoinDCX 6.6 out of 10 for buying and holding PAXG. The market is real and active according to the exchange’s own API. CoinDCX is reported to be registered with FIU-IND. But its fee page blocked our check, so we cannot confirm costs, and we could not verify its security record from official sources. Above all, the tax rules for crypto in India make PAXG a less efficient way to hold gold than a SEBI-regulated gold ETF.

PAXG markets on CoinDCX

CoinDCX’s public API reported three PAXG markets on 12 October 2026: PAXG/INR, PAXG/USDT and PAXG/BTC. The PAXG/INR market had status “active” and a last trade at ₹420,005. The PAXG/USDT ticker showed a last price of 4,171.03 USDT the same day. Aggregators such as CoinGecko missed CoinDCX’s PAXG markets, so we have no third-party volume figure to quote.

Those two prices let you run a useful check. Divide the INR price by the USDT price and you get an implied rupee rate per USDT. With the snapshot above, that is about ₹100.7 per USDT. If that implied rate is well above the rate you would get converting rupees elsewhere, you are paying a local premium for buying PAXG directly in rupees. If it is close, the INR book is priced fairly. Our gold calculator converts the live price into rupees, tola and grams for the same comparison.

Fees

We tried to open CoinDCX’s fee page on 12 October 2026 and the server refused the request. We will not print maker, taker or withdrawal fees we could not read. Check them on the fee screen after you sign in, and look at three numbers: the trading fee on INR markets, any spread on instant-buy screens, and the PAXG withdrawal fee.

For Indian buyers, tax costs usually outweigh trading fees. The chart below uses a simple example to show why. Paxos itself adds no on-chain transfer fee on PAXG today; see PAXG redemption and fees for what Paxos charges on its own platform.

Example: tax on a ₹20,000 gain from PAXG (illustrative)

Gain on sale₹20,000
30% tax (before cess)₹6,000
1% TDS on ₹120,000 sale value₹1,200

Illustrative: PAXG bought for ₹100,000 and sold for ₹120,000. TDS is credited against your final tax; cess is extra. Not tax advice.

Rupee deposits and withdrawals

CoinDCX takes rupee deposits from your own bank account after KYC. Because the fee page was blocked, we could not confirm which transfer methods are supported today, the limits, or whether any deposit fee applies. Use only a bank account in your own name, and avoid peer-to-peer offers from strangers.

If you want to hold PAXG yourself, you can withdraw it to a wallet on a supported network. On Ethereum, the official contract is 0x45804880De22913dAFE09f4980848ECE6EcbAf78. Paxos made Solana an official network on 25 June 2026, but it has not published a mint address we could verify, and there is no official PAXG on BSC or Arbitrum. Our networks guide and wallet guide explain how to avoid fake tokens.

30% tax and 1% TDS

India treats PAXG as a virtual digital asset. Gains are taxed at a flat 30% plus cess under section 115BBH, with no deduction other than the cost of acquisition. Losses cannot be set off against other income or carried forward. On top of that, 1% TDS applies to the sale value under section 194S. Both rules stayed in force after Budget 2026, though section numbers may change under the new Income-tax Act 2025. Check details with the Income Tax Department.

Compare that with physical gold, which carries 3% GST on purchase, and with gold ETFs and Electronic Gold Receipts, which are SEBI-regulated. SEBI also warned on 8 November 2025 that unregulated “digital gold” products fall outside its purview. PAXG is not a SEBI product either. Our PAXG vs gold comparison sets the options side by side.

Regulation and security

India has no comprehensive crypto law. Crypto is neither banned nor regulated as a security, and neither SEBI nor the RBI licenses exchanges. Since March 2023, virtual asset service providers have been reporting entities under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and must register with the Financial Intelligence Unit – India. Secondary sources reported 49 registered providers as of March 2025 and list CoinDCX among them. We did not verify the entry on the FIU site.

FIU-IND registration is about anti-money-laundering duties. It is not a licence covering custody, capital or investor protection. On security, CoinDCX’s official site blocked our requests, and we could not confirm details of its security record from an official statement or reputable news during this check. We therefore do not describe any incident here. Before depositing a large amount, read CoinDCX’s own security and announcement pages. For risks that come from the token itself, such as Paxos’s ability to freeze addresses, see is PAX Gold safe.

Alternatives

WazirX is the other Indian exchange with an active PAXG/INR market, though it is still rebuilding after its 2024 hack. Giottus lists PAXG/INR but its book was effectively empty on 12 October 2026, and Mudrex offers a PAXG buy flow based on PAXG/USDT. CEX.IO does not accept users from India, so it is not an option here. Global venues have deeper PAXG/USDT books; check their FIU-IND registration before using them from India.

Questions people ask

Does CoinDCX support PAXG?

Yes. CoinDCX’s own public API showed an active PAXG/INR market on 12 October 2026, with a last price of ₹420,005. The same data also listed PAXG/USDT and PAXG/BTC markets.

How do I buy PAXG on CoinDCX?

Complete KYC, deposit rupees from your bank account, open the PAXG/INR market and place an order. Check the order book against the global price first, and remember that 1% TDS applies when you later sell.

What tax do I pay on PAXG gains in India?

PAX Gold is treated as a virtual digital asset, so gains are taxed at a flat 30% plus cess, with no deduction except the cost of acquisition. Losses cannot be set off or carried forward, and 1% TDS applies on transfers. This is not tax advice.

Is CoinDCX registered with FIU-IND?

Secondary sources list CoinDCX among the virtual asset providers registered with the Financial Intelligence Unit – India. We could not check the FIU-IND list directly on 12 October 2026, so confirm it on fiuindia.gov.in.

Is PAXG better than a gold ETF in India?

For most Indian investors, a gold ETF has the edge on tax and regulation: ETFs are SEBI-regulated, while PAXG is a crypto asset taxed at 30% with 1% TDS. PAXG suits people who specifically want a token they can move to a wallet or trade around the clock.
