The short answer
Yes, you can buy PAX Gold in Turkey with Turkish lira, and you have more choice than in most countries. As of 12 October 2026, three exchanges on the Capital Markets Board’s operating list run a live PAXG/TRY market: BtcTurk, Binance TR and OKX TR. A fourth venue, Bitlo, shows a PAXG/TRY pair too, but with only a few hundred dollars of daily trading it is not a practical place to buy.
PAXG is an ERC-20 token issued by Paxos Trust Company, N.A., a US national trust bank supervised by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). One PAXG represents one fine troy ounce of a London Good Delivery gold bar held in LBMA vaults in London. If you are new to the token, our explainer on what PAX Gold is covers the basics, and the gold backing page explains the vaults and monthly attestations by KPMG LLP.

SPK rules under Law 7518
Turkey’s crypto framework rests on Law No. 7518, published in July 2024. It amended the Capital Markets Law No. 6362 and put crypto-asset service providers under the Sermaye Piyasası Kurulu (SPK), the Capital Markets Board of Türkiye. Platforms now need SPK authorisation, and custody of customer assets must be handled under contracts with approved custodians. According to a KPMG Türkiye guide from April 2025, the minimum capital is 150 million TRY for trading platforms and 500 million TRY for custodians.
It helps to separate three layers here, because they are often mixed up in Turkish forum threads. The law says every platform must be licensed. The regulator’s position today is a transition period. SPK publishes a Faaliyette Bulunanlar Listesi, a list of firms that declared they would keep operating while they apply. Being on that list is not a licence. And the exchange practice is that the big local venues keep serving customers while their applications are processed.
That transition got longer this year. SPK decision 18/617 of 26 March 2026 pushed back the deadlines for custody contracts and for licence (yetki belgesi) applications. We searched for a public SPK announcement of a final licence for any exchange and found none as of October 2026. So the honest description of BtcTurk, Binance TR and OKX TR is “on the SPK operating list, licence pending”. You can check the current list yourself on the SPK crypto-asset service providers page.
Enforcement is real, though. In August 2026 SPK began access-ban proceedings against a batch of unlicensed crypto websites, according to Turkish press reports. The practical lesson is simple: a platform that is missing from the SPK list can be blocked, and your account there can become hard to reach.

Where PAXG/TRY trades
We checked each exchange’s own public API on 12 October 2026. BtcTurk returned both PAXG/TRY and PAXG/USDT with status “TRADING”. CoinGecko put its 24-hour volume at about $40,700 on the lira pair and about $71,000 on the USDT pair that day. Binance TR returned a PAXG_TRY symbol. OKX TR returned PAXG-TRY and PAXG-USDT, and its API shows the lira pair went live on 13 March 2026.
Two smaller names deserve a word. Bitlo shows PAXG/TRY on CoinGecko, but with about $467 of volume in 24 hours. A market that thin can move several percent on a modest order. Paribu showed no PAXG market on CoinGecko and its own API was blocked from our research setup, so we could not confirm a listing either way.
| Exchange | PAXG pairs | What stands out | Official site |
|---|---|---|---|
| BTBtcTurk | PAXG/TRYPAXG/USDT | Lira and USDT books; ~$40.7k PAXG/TRY volume per CoinGecko | btcturk.com |
| BIBinance TR | PAXG/TRY | Lira pair only, familiar app for Binance users | binance.tr |
| OKOKX TR | PAXG/TRYPAXG/USDT | PAXG-TRY since 13 Mar 2026, plus PAXG-USDT | tr.okx.com |
One point causes confusion. Binance’s global site also runs a PAXG/TRY market, and on 12 October 2026 it was the deepest lira book at about $515,000 of daily volume. That market belongs to the global entity, not to Binance TR, which is the company on the SPK list. For a resident, that difference matters if SPK ever tightens access. Our broader PAXG exchange list compares the global venues.
Prefer a USDT route?
CEX.IO, in business since 2013, lists PAXG against USDT, USD, EUR and USDC. It serves Turkey through CEX OVRS LLC (Nevis), holds no SPK licence and takes no lira, so it suits people who already hold USDT.
PAXG and gram altın
Gold is the oldest savings habit in Turkey. Families keep gram altın bars, çeyrek altın quarter coins and 22-karat bilezik bracelets, and a large share sits at home rather than in a bank. People call it yastık altı, gold “under the pillow”. In February 2026 central bank governor Fatih Karahan put household gold at roughly $600 billion. An estimate from mid-2025 had put unregistered household gold at about $311 billion. The two figures use different methods, so treat them as a range rather than a trend.
Demand has been sensitive to price. World Gold Council data cited by Türkiye Today shows bar and coin demand of 71.1 tonnes in 2025, down 37% from 112.2 tonnes in 2024, as record gold prices priced some buyers out. The first quarter of 2026 brought a rebound to 26.1 tonnes, up 29% year on year. In 2023 the WGC ranked Turkey the third-largest bar and coin market in the world.
PAXG fits this culture better than most crypto. The conversion is one line of arithmetic. One PAXG is one troy ounce, which is 31.1035 grams, so PAXG/TRY ÷ 31.1035 ≈ the lira price of one gram of fine gold. As a dated example, CoinGecko’s PAXG reference on 12 October 2026 was about ₺205,800, which works out to roughly ₺6,620 per gram. Our gold calculator does the same sum with live data.
| Form | Fine gold | Main extra cost | Liquidity |
|---|---|---|---|
| PAXG on a TRY exchange | 31.1035 g per token, any fraction | Trading fee plus spread | 24/7 on the order book |
| Gram altın (bank or jeweler) | 1 g per bar | Buy/sell spread | Shop or bank hours |
| Çeyrek altın | Quarter coin, 22 karat | Spread plus işçilik | Jewelers |
| 22k bilezik | Varies by weight | Making charge, often high | Jewelers |

The main trade-off is physical. A çeyrek coin is in your drawer. PAXG gives you a claim on gold in London, recorded on Ethereum, and you need a wallet or an exchange account to hold it. Redemption for physical metal is only possible in full London Good Delivery bars, with a 430-ounce minimum. Our PAXG vs physical gold comparison goes through that trade-off in detail.
Tax status
As of October 2026 Turkey has no crypto-specific tax in force. That was close to changing. In March 2026 the ruling party submitted an omnibus bill with two crypto measures: a 0.03% “crypto-asset transaction tax” on transfers and sales, and a 10% withholding tax on gains made through SPK-regulated platforms. Bloomberg Tax reported the proposal. After objections from the opposition, the crypto provisions were removed from the bill in late March 2026.
That does not mean the topic is closed. A revised version could come back in a later bill, and general income-tax rules may still apply to some situations. We are not tax advisors and this is not tax advice. Check the latest position with the Revenue Administration (GİB) or a mali müşavir before you file.
Buying step by step
The flow is the same on all three lira venues. The example below assumes BtcTurk, but the menus on Binance TR and OKX TR follow the same logic. Our general how-to-buy guide covers card and USDT routes too.
Pick a venue on the SPK list
Check that the exchange appears on the SPK operating list before you send money.
Verify your identity
Turkish exchanges ask for your national ID details and run an identity check. Use an account in your own name.
Deposit lira by bank transfer
Send TRY from a bank account in your name, usually by EFT or FAST, to the IBAN shown in the app.
Buy on the PAXG/TRY book
Use a limit order near the best offer. Example: ₺10,000 at a 0.2% fee leaves ₺9,980 of PAXG before spread.
Decide where to keep it
Leave it on the exchange for easy trading, or withdraw to a self-custody wallet on Ethereum. See our wallet guide.
If you withdraw, send only on the network the exchange names and check the contract address against our networks page. The official Ethereum contract is 0x45804880De22913dAFE09f4980848ECE6EcbAf78. Paxos also launched PAXG officially on Solana on 25 June 2026, but has not published the Solana mint address on its blog, so verify it on paxos.com before you use it.
Local risks
Caution pays off with any crypto platform. Most problems PAXG holders face here are not about the gold. They are about where the token is held and who is offering it. Our main PAXG safety guide covers the issuer side: Paxos can freeze or wipe addresses under its terms, and the contract can be upgraded.
Before you buy PAXG in Turkey
- Confirm the exchange is on the current SPK operating list, and remember that the list is not a licence.
- Ignore Telegram and WhatsApp “gold coin” groups that promise fixed monthly returns on PAXG. PAXG pays no yield by itself.
- Check the order-book depth before a large order. Thin books like Bitlo’s can cost you several percent.
- Watch the gap between PAXG/TRY and the global PAXG/USDT price times USD/TRY. A large premium means you are overpaying.
- If you withdraw, use only the Ethereum contract or a Paxos-confirmed Solana mint.
- Keep records of every buy and sell in case a crypto tax returns.
Finally, remember the price itself moves. PAXG follows the international gold price, which reached record highs in January 2026 and then fell about 27% to a low around 1 July 2026. In lira terms, a weaker currency can soften those falls, but it cannot remove them. You can follow the dollar price on our live PAXG price page and compare other countries in our country guides.
Questions people ask
Can I buy PAX Gold with Turkish lira?
Yes. As of 12 October 2026, BtcTurk, Binance TR and OKX TR all run a PAXG/TRY spot market, and Bitlo shows a very thin PAXG/TRY book. You deposit lira by bank transfer, buy PAXG on the order book and can keep it on the exchange or withdraw it to your own Ethereum wallet.
Is PAXG licensed in Turkey?
PAXG itself is not licensed by the Capital Markets Board (SPK); it is a token issued in the US by Paxos Trust Company, N.A. What SPK regulates is the platform you use. Under Law 7518 crypto platforms need an SPK licence, but as of October 2026 we found no public confirmation that any exchange has received its final licence yet.
Do I pay tax on PAXG profits in Turkey?
As of October 2026 no crypto-specific tax is in force. A March 2026 bill proposed a 0.03% transaction tax and a 10% withholding tax on gains, but those provisions were removed from the bill in late March 2026. A revised version could return, so check the Revenue Administration (GİB) before you file.
How do I compare PAXG/TRY with the gram gold price?
Divide the PAXG/TRY price by 31.1035, the number of grams in one troy ounce. The result is the lira price of one gram of fine gold inside the token. It will usually sit close to the bank gram altın rate, while jewelers add their own spread and making charge.
Is BtcTurk or Binance TR better for PAXG?
Both offer PAXG/TRY. On 12 October 2026 CoinGecko showed about $40,700 of daily PAXG/TRY volume on BtcTurk, which also has a PAXG/USDT market. Binance TR offers PAXG/TRY only. Compare the live spread on each book before a large order.
